ASHEBORO, NORTH CAROLINA - With fun and entertainment each weekend-from Earth Day to exploring African art, music and dance-the North Carolina Zoo will continue its month-long April celebration of "ZooFLING 2011" Saturday, April 9.

On Saturday, the zoo celebrates "Feast of the Beasts," featuring keeper talks and animal feedings throughout the day. Visitors can meet zoo keepers and learn about animal appetites at these times: polar bears, 11 a.m.; peregrine falcon, 11:30 a.m.; seabirds at Rocky Coast, 1:30 p.m.; gorillas, 1:30 p.m.; chimpanzees, 2 p.m.; seals, 2:30 p.m.; and bats at the Sonora Desert, 3:30 p.m.

Visitors can party for the planet on Saturday, April 16, when the zoo celebrates Earth Day. Visitors can learn about the zoo's conservation efforts and green practices and can take part in educational family fun and entertainment throughout the park.

The fun continues Saturday, April 23, with "Eggstravaganza,"a day when zoo animals hunt for treats in their exhibits. In keeping with the Easter celebration, the treats will be hidden inside decorative paper-mache` eggs made by zoo volunteers.

The animal "eggsperiences" will include cougars, black bears, lemurs, sea birds, gorillas, elephants and baboons. Activities will also include egg displays at both the Sonora Desert and Aviary exhibits.

The month-long festivities wrap up Saturday, April 30, with a celebration of African art, music, dance and mystery. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of the exciting performances of The Healing Force and Sugarfoote Productions, play in drum circles with Music Explorium and hear the story-telling of Fred Motley.

All the Saturday fun takes place during regular zoo hours of 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is included in the regular zoo admission of $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $6 for children (ages 2-12).

Coca-Cola is the signature sponsor for ZooFLING and all zoo special events this year.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment & Natural Resources, Dee Freeman, Secretary; Beverly Eaves Perdue, Governor.
