North Carolina Zoo
Things To Do -> Museums and Attractions (Asheboro)
One of the largest attractions in the state, the North Carolina Zoo delivers outdoor fun for family and friends from exciting animal encounters to enchanting outdoor art. The Zoo is considered an international leader in animal conservation with field conservation programs in over 10 countries. Situated in the heart of central North Carolina near the scenic Uwharrie Mountains, the North Carolina Zoo is the world‘s largest natural habitat zoo. Guests will encounter 1,800 animals along a five-mile walking trail, enjoy taking a spin on the endangered species carousel, tackling ropes courses (one for adults and one for kids), or enjoying the opportunity to feed a giraffe. Children can learn about the Zoo‘s ambassador animals, splash in a creek or make mud pies at the Kidzone play area. Discover exotic and native butterflies at the walk-through butterfly garden, opening in May. Whether elephants, lions, giraffes, or polar bears, animals of all kinds call the North Carolina Zoo home!
